As The Treadmill Turns: Sex With Clients? Don't.

"Do you want to be famous? Or infamous?"

Obviously, I was very naive.

I didn't know that so much sex went on at the gym.

Especially between Personal Trainers and their clients.

The number is higher than I thought, and so is the risk.

I am clutching my invisible pearls.

Why?

If you are a Trainer and you are asking me why? We have some work to do.

Let's go:

Watch Your Brand!

1. It is unethical.

We won't even get into the moral aspect of this(for those that have them.) We are focusing on the money. Do we not like making money?

Do you think if you get caught diddling Daddy or Mama Warbucks wife, daughter, or son, they might be a bit peeved?

They tell a friend, and the friend tells a friend.

See where this goes?

Now you are the infamous Diddling PT.

That money train crashes and burns.

2. Integrity-less

Bear with me for a moment.

Sometimes, we train people that are in bad places mentally.

Divorce, strained marriage, I could go on.

You, the Trainer, are their happy place. We are their stress relief.

Their feel-good spot.

Not Dr. Feel-good trying to find the G-Spot!

There are times when clients get crushes because they feel good and sexy when they are working out. They associate that feeling with us, the Trainer. That is normal! Endorphines are released(let that be the only thing that's released!)everyone is feeling lovely. Let it stop there.

Don't take advantage of their feelings.

Use that charisma that you have to get them to work harder.

That's why we are there. Never lose sight of that.

The Fallout

People talk.

Always remember that.

When you believe you are being discreet...you aren't.

I have seen some extreme cases of Personal Trainers losing everything, some to the point of jail time. He said/she said super-sized! All of this can be avoided with a modicum of self-control and professionalism.

Let me reiterate: Remember why you are there.

The flirtations, the sexual innuendo, and inappropriate gifts, gently explain to them how you feel about that. Boundaries are key!

If you feel things are getting too hot... drop the client.

I have been there. The money will be good but remember your reputation. That is what counts.

And I kept loving what I do, I want the same for you.

Save your integrity.

We are our Brand.

Be famous, not infamous.

Wishing you love and peace, but mostly Peace!

  1. You know I couldn't agree with you more. I think the biggest thing is that while we're at the gym training someone we tend to focus more on them, what they're doing, how they're doing it and the client be it a female/ male Will sometimes take it the wrong way since they look at this as oh they're spending more time with us. They're focusing on us and start flirting with us since it's more than some of them will get at home with their significant other. Which to be honest is pretty sad to say the least. But as trainers we need to be the bigger person and realize that this is our job and they are our client and by doing something like that will not only hurt us but bring a bad name to other trainers. So is it worth ruining your reputation? No I don't care how fine they look. Nothing is worth it. Well said there and keep up the good work
