Once There Was a Woman in a Phone Store...
As of today, I have decided that I dislike technology! Though I am using a laptop as I write this(which kind of makes me hypocritical)we will forget this and move on. Not only do I dislike technology, but I dislike the people that sell it, install it or fix it for that matter. What set me off? The phone store. You need to know this about me: I love the Flip phone. Stop laughing! I would have never gotten rid of my Flip phone if my children hadn't conspired against me! Okay, and the fact that I really couldn't see the pictures(yes! my phone received pictures!)that people were sending me. But anyway, I went to the store with a heavy heart(and my Eldest Daughter who was sent by the Kid-stapo to make sure I went through with it)to find a new and updated phone. The Millennial that was assigned to me did what any salesperson would have done, try and get me to buy the most expensive phone there. He didn't know who he was dealing with. I can squeeze two cents from a penny! Plus, him looking with surprise and then laughing when he saw my lovely purple Flip phone didn't help his cause. IT people, like Doctors, get this horrible, condescending tone when talking to the naive and uneducated. Just because we don't 'speak' your language doesn't mean you should talk in that slow, patronizing tone! And get that smirk off your face! You asked me what I want my phone to do. I responded "Call and text." Why is this a source of amusement to you? My Daughter steps in as if she is the interpreter for the Technologically Incompetent(aka dumb) "She(meaning me)doesn't read, play games or do business on her phone." "Oh!" He says "Let's give her(meaning me)the basic blah, blah, blah phone!" Now, why didn't he understand her and not me? Didn't I say the same thing? I said text and call, didn't I?! Maybe he just needed another Millennial to say it...Whatever! My new phone is cute with a lovely colorful case, but it doesn't fit in my pocket the way my Flip phone did. But I am grateful(I mumbled that). I do realize that we live in a society where people talk about and pay big money for their phones. They discuss their phones the way I talk about books. I have to get used to this. I have had people try and start conversations with "So Dawn, what type of phone do you have?" Me, "One that texts and calls!" Blank look. But I can tell you about Cave Trolls! giggle..(what a Nerd)
Wishing you all Peace and Love, but mostly Peace!
