Expectations
I am a little perplexed when people say to me or any other person "lower your standards." What does that mean exactly? To not expect anything? From anyone? To expect anything, i.e; compassion, consideration, common courtesy, MANNERS!, is to expect too much? Who knew!? Last night I went to a really fun concert, Chris Isaak, if you haven't seen his show, go next time. Anyway, someone decided to pass gas, no that is being kind. Someone decided to unleash a gaseous piece of Hell! It was just that bad. Four rows of people suffered all because someone didn't have manners enough or was considerate enough to go to the bathroom! Gas happens; but really?! Are my standards too high that I don't want to smell your insides? I think not. I really do expect simple acts of consideration like: holding the door open for people when I know they are walking in behind me. While driving, allowing people to merge into traffic from an exit. When people say hi to me; I say hi back. Wow! My standards are so high! What will I want next!? People not to burp at the table? Or God forbid! Not to chew with their mouths open!? Sarcasm aside, the question is: How far off the mark are we that we consider basic manners and considerations "High Standards?" I don't think this is age talking( I checked with some young people and they feel the same way:) or maybe it is. I didn't want to give the "When I was a kid" speech, but I find myself giving this speech more often than not. I have decided not to take to heart the snide comments about my high standards, in fact, I think they are a compliment. I will continue to try and treat people well, without expectation of...anything. My standards are high, highly Humane. I only hope and pray yours are as well. Now, go do something humane for someone:)
I wouldn't say your standards are high its's just plain common courtacy. Granted if young they may not have been tought that as a kid and are learning ok If they respect themselves they will take notes .......But grown folks come on.... Well thats my minute....................................
